Cooling tower - new Power Engineering Student Research Group project

The aim of a project is to show how cooling tower works and to check whether can we cool water on a small scale. It is a heat rejection device that rejects waste heat to the atmosphere through the cooling of a water stream to a lower temperature. This project shows the whole process.

Description

Water is heated up to 80 C. Then it is pumped into the cooling tower and it is sprinkled all over. Water goes through a fill which extends the time of heat and mass transfer. The air is blown in the counterflow. Cooled water drops in the basin and then it is pumped to a heater to close cycle. There are a lot of sensors in a whole model: temperatures, humidity, water flow, and air flow. The construction of a cooling tower is made on a 3D printer. Because of a size, we use a fan to increase air flow.
